You are ready for the big game. Not. You forgot something. Something big. You haven’t placed a bet on the game. And you know it is more fun to watch when you bet. New to betting on football? Read on.
There are several ways that you can bet on the outcome of an old-fashioned football game. Ways like Totals, Parlays, Teasers, Pleasers, Prop Bets, and Futures. If you want in on the action, you should know about these types of bets. Here is a super succinct primer.
Totals
Totals are all about totals. To get more specific, about the total of the two scores of the teams facing off against each other. A bookmaker will set a total, and a bettor bets that the actual total will be higher or lower than the bookmaker’s. If the bettor is right, the better wins.
Parlays
We tend to think of betting on a football game. That is singular. The parlay throws a wrench in this thinking – it allows us to place a bet based on the outcomes of multiple games; from 2 up to a possible 12. As the number of games involves get higher, so do the possible takings. It is an alluring scheme.
Teasers
The teaser has something in common with the parlay; they both involve making a bet based on a scenario that involves multiple teams. They also have a difference; a bettor can change the point spreads in a teaser bet. The teaser is a bet that lets the bettor get his hands dirty. But hopefully not his wallet emptied.
Pleasers
Pleaser rhymes with teaser. Though this did not really need to be mentioned. The pleaser is a hard-core bet for the strong of heart and mind. It is the opposite of the teaser; instead of being able to add or subtract points to a spread in a way that helps your prospects, you have to take them away. It is a high-reward, high-risk venture.
Prop Bets
Prop bets can sometimes seem silly, in a ridiculous kind of way. For example, a prop bet could ask the question whether Alicia Keys will add a word to the national anthem. A fun thing to ponder but one that has very little to do with football. You’ll be happy to hear that there are props bets that are all about the game.
